Cabinet Services

Cabinet is the principal formal decision making body of the government. Government ministers are collectively responsible for Cabinet decisions.

Cabinet Services and Implementation provides administrative and operational support to Cabinet, Cabinet Committees and Community Cabinet meetings including:

  • administration and coordination of all Cabinet and Cabinet Committee business, timetabling and scheduling of submissions and the distribution of Cabinet minutes and decisions 
  • providing direct support to the Premier and Ministers when they attend Cabinet, Cabinet Committee and Community Cabinet meetings 
  • ensuring secure custodianship of the Cabinet and Cabinet Committee record from current and previous Queensland Governments until it is legally able to be publicly released, and 
  • providing logistical and administrative support to Community Cabinet meetings held throughout Queensland, including the coordination of public deputations with the Premier and Ministers.

The unit is also responsible for the strategic management of Cabinet and Cabinet Committee processes in Queensland. This is achieved:

  • through ongoing assessment of the operation of systems and processes to ensure optimum performance
  • by ensuring that all Cabinet and Cabinet Committee business is conducted in accordance with Cabinet conventions, protocols and established processes.

The Cabinet Secretary, who heads Cabinet Services, also has a primary role of attending Cabinet meetings to record the minutes and decisions of Cabinet. Cabinet Services also includes the Cabinet Legislation and Liaison function for the Premier.
