Queensland Education and Training International (QETI) is a dedicated unit located in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. Operational since December 2001, QETI's objective is to grow the Queensland education and training industry to $1 billion by 2006. This target has now been achieved.
QETI works with and provides leadership to international education and training providers, both public and private. By coordinating actions and achieving consensus, QETI builds a whole-of-industry approach. This approach ensures maximum impact when positioning Queensland as a preferred provider in selected international and niche education markets.
QETI implements strategies to ensure high quality of education and training, student support and pastoral care and assists the Queensland education and training institutions to further enable growth.
By developing the international education and training export industry, QETI supports and extends the principles of the Smart State and fuels the development of a globally competitive knowledge economy. In this way QETI directly contributes to the long-term economic growth of Queensland's economy.
Examples of our activities include:
- Providing funding and support through a grants and sponsorship program to support Queensland's international education activity
- Coordinating and hosting programs and seminars on international market opportunities
- Provide input to Free Trade Agreement discussions
- Undertaking a range of collaborative research programs on issues affecting international students in Queensland such as international student accommodation and transport issues
- Promotion of the Study Queensland website with an institution and course search facility
- Publishing a range of marketing material in several languages. Contact QETI for further information.
