Australian Apprenticeship Centres:

What is Australian Apprenticeships?

Australian Apprenticeships is a training and employment program run by the Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). It incorporates traineeships and apprenticeships and has been designed to provide more flexible arrangements in the labour market for both employers and employees.

The aim of the program is to provide:

  • increased career path opportunities in a greater number of industries and occupations
  • nationally portable training accreditation
  • full-time, part-time and school based arrangements
  • a wider choice of training providers for employers.

The flexible arrangements are being introduced gradually and may vary between industries and between States and Territories.

What are Australian Apprenticeship Centres?

Centrelink staff can refer young people to specialist Australian Apprenticeship Centres contracted by DEST as part of Job Network. These centres provide employers and employees with general information and assistance on all aspects of Australian Apprenticeships. Customers interested in advertised Australian Apprenticeship vacancies should make contact with the Job Network provider or employer who has placed the vacancies on Centrelink touchscreens or in newspapers.
