The International Services Branch of the Department of Education and Training (DET) is the coordination point for the Department's international involvement. It is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and/or monitoring international programs at both departmental and school levels.
International Services Branch currently oversees the following programs:
Northern Territory – Indonesia Teacher and Student Exchange program
International Services manages the exchange program between the education departments of the Northern Territory (NT) and Indonesia. Teacher exchanges are for 12 months with the NT and Indonesian students undertaking half-year exchanges.
In response to Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) travel advice, NT teachers and students are not currently being placed on exchange in Indonesia. NT schools continue to host Indonesian participants.
NT registration process for the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)
In the Northern Territory, the Department of Education and Training (DET) looks after registration and compliance matters for all education sectors including higher education, VET, TAFE and schools. DET's International Services Branch is responsible for recommending eligible providers of services to overseas students to Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) for listing on the CRICOS Register, maintaining the NT CRICOS Register and monitoring the compliance of CRICOS Registered education service providers in the Northern Territory.

Full fee paying Overseas Student program
International Services markets, brokers and facilitates the recruitment, the school and homestay placement and ongoing pastoral care of full-fee-paying overseas students in NT Government schools. We are responsible for regulating all providers of education service to overseas students according to federal and NT Government requirements.
Study tours - Onshore
International Services facilitates arrangements for NT high schools to host annual visits by groups of Japanese students and teachers. These visits provide opportunities for NT students, teachers and school communities to be involved in international activities that enhance learning.
Study tours - Offshore
International Services arranges fee-for-service educational study tours to a number of destinations for teachers, students and members of school communities.
Teacher Exchange and professional development
International Services arranges exchanges and visits of up to one year duration, with a variety of jurisdictions including the United Kingdom. Canada, United States, New Zealand, Austria, Germany and interstate. Exchanges are available to teachers and Principals.
Excursions and Guest Teacher programs
Each year groups of students from NT schools plan overseas trips, providing opportunities for enhanced language learning and cultural understanding. International Services monitors the security situation in overseas countries and provides advice and support to DET staff in arranging these visits.
Relationship building
On behalf of the Department, International Services builds and maintains links with national and international organisations and departments in regard to international education activities and issues.
International registers
International Services is responsible for maintenance of registers of DET offshore activities and DET employees seeking to undertake project work offshore.
It also regulates NT providers listed on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) that provide education services to overseas students. DET's CRICOS provider number is 00780M.
