What is the Virtual Schooling Service (VSS)?

cartoon image of girl at computerThe VSS is an internationally and nationally recognised exemplar of excellence in distance education. The service uses innovative delivery strategies and a range of learning technologies to support students at a distance.

Now in its 8th year of operation, VSS delivers subjects including German, Modern History, Dance and Information and Processing Technology, covering schools from the Gold Coast to Torres Strait, from Townsville to Mt Isa.

i–school

i–school is the part of VSS that delivers secondary school subjects to school–based students within Education Queensland.

Subjects available in 2009 include:

 Legal Studies
 Dance
 Economics
 German
 Information Processing and Technology
 Japanese
 Maths C
 Modern History
 Physics

Enrolments information for 2009

Virtual Schooling ServiceVSS has published the 2009 timetable and enrolment forms. They offer opportunities for students in schools with limited subject offerings a chance to study subjects which otherwise may not be available to them including Modern History, Economics, Maths C, Physics, IPT and Legal Studies for students in years 11 and 12 and Japanese and Dance in years 9 to 12.

They will also be offering Years 10 and 11 Chinese (Mandarin) in 2009. This is the first new subject to be added to the existing subject range since 2005.

German will NOT be offered to year 11 students in 2009 but will continue to finalise the current cohort through their year 12 studies.
