Overseas Qualifications Assessment advises migrants, refugees and other permanent residents with overseas qualifications on the procedures to follow to gain recognition and utilise their overseas qualifications, skills and experience. Overseas Qualifications Assessment provides for people with overseas qualifications and skills the following services:

What documents do you need for a written assessment of your qualifications?

The original and the English translation** of the following documents:
  • qualification/award.
  • transcript of academic record
  • evidence of your Australian residence status.
  • evidence of change of name, e.g. marriage certificate (where appropriate)
** Translations must be by a National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) Level 3 translator.

Your documents may be original or certified copies.

How are assessments made?
  1. Against the appropriate Country Education Profile published by the Australia Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition. AEI-NOOSR carries out extensive research into overseas education systems and qualifications in order to establish their comparability with Australian awards and develop assessment guidelines. Experts in academic, professional, technical and business fields are consulted.
  2. Your qualification is checked against the name of the qualification and the institute which issued it.
  3. If there is a guideline which covers your qualification an educational assessment advice statement is prepared.
  4. If all documents are available at initial assessment, an assessment advice can usually be issued within five weeks.

IMPORTANT NOTE These assessments are educational assessments and not occupational assessments. You may need to complete other requirements to be able to work in your occupation. There are professional and occupational registration authorities which determine these requirements. One of the functions of Overseas Qualifications Assessment is to refer you to these organisations.

How educational assessments can help me?
  • with entry to post-secondary education
  • explain your educational level to an employer for general employment purposes
  • gain membership of a professional association
  • obtain a licence for regulatory purposes
