Education Maintenance Allowance
The Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) provides assistance to low-income families by helping with the costs associated with the education of their children.
The allowance is paid in two instalments, instalment one from March onwards and instalment two from August onwards. A portion of the payment is paid to the school and a portion is paid to the parent/guardian.
EMA applications are made by parents/guardians and must be submitted to schools by 27 February 2009 for the first instalment. Application forms are available from schools.
