About Career Advice Australia
Career Advice Australia is an Australian Government initiative that provides a comprehensive national career development and transition support system for all Australians aged 13 to 19 years.
The economy is growing and businesses are expanding, and that’s led to a huge demand for skilled workers. For today’s young people this means more jobs and more choices. Career Advice Australia’s comprehensive programs and services aim to help all young Australians to get the skills, training and advice they need to make the most of these opportunities.
Career Advice Australia achieves this through:
- Local Community Partnerships which assist all schools, local businesses, community organisations and industry bodies to deliver career development and transition support services to help all young people gain skills, experience, professional guidance and access to industry-based career information
- Regional Industry Career Advisers, in 57 service regions, which ensure that young people, parents, schools and local business receive relevant localised industry career information, advice and resources
- National Industry Career Specialists, representing 10 industry sectors, which support the Regional Industry Career Advisers by providing industry sector-specific information
- Youth Pathways which offers personalised services to assist young people that are at risk of not making it through school and onto further education, training or employment
- Connections (previously known as Partnership Outreach Education Model (POEM)) which provides young people who are disconnected from mainstream schooling with another chance at learning through flexible and accredited education and training options.
- Career Education Lighthouse Schools are funded by the Australian Government to champion good practices in quality career education and trial new and innovative ways of implementing career education in schools. The aim of the Lighthouse project is to improve the delivery of career education in schools through disseminating positive examples of career education programs which encourage other schools to develop a planned and coordinated approach to career education.
Career Advice Australia is strongly focused on improving the standard and status of career development services in Australian schools. To achieve this, the Australian Government has also funded initiatives to provide teachers and career advisers with training and development opportunities.
The Career Advice Australia initiative also works alongside and in collaboration with other Australian Government programs and services including myfuture, The Real Game Series, Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools and Enterprise Learning for the 21st Century.
